The Story Behind Emergent Woodworks

After having spent a career as an Aerospace engineer designing launch vehicles and satellites, I decided to bring my passion for innovation to the field of custom furniture design. I focus on manifesting designs which possess a singular flair of uniqueness.

 

The name Emergent Woodworks stems from the idea in science of "emergent properties". These are characteristics a system manifests as a function of scale. The flocking patterns of birds may be impossible to predict from the study of the flight patterns of a single individual. The development of ocean waves only manifests as trillions of water molecules interact with the wind and shoreline. The behavior of a single grain of sand stands in stark contrast to the presentation of a sand dune.

The expression of beauty of complex systems is reflected perfectly in woodworking.

My goal is to allow the wood to volunteer its magnificence, with only the slightest of coaxing.

Emergent Woodworks is a family operation that provides the service of designing any & all custom furniture, regardless of the complexity or potentially preposterous concept of the design idea. The crazier the better. :)
